Robert Harris is a modern British novelist who brings ancient Rome to life in some wonderfully written historical novels. Pompeii is set in the time of the explosion of Mount Vesuvius, while Imperium and his newest novel Lustrum follow the life of the orator and politician Cicero. You can borrow either Pompeii or Imperium from my classroom. I have Lustrum on order and will share thoughts on it once I read it. You can read a review of Lustrum here:
